All about Zakynthos

Olive pre-existed in the Ionian Sea for thousands of years, but was intensified as a crop during the Venetian period, mainly between the 16th and 17th centuries. Today, due to the development of tourism, it has been abandoned in most Ionian islands, except Zakynthos, which is one of the largest producers of olive oil in Greece and this is the basis of most Greek dishes. Most of the production is used for the production of olive oil, but there is also the production of various varieties of olives.
