All about Zakynthos

In the courtyard of the church of Evangelistria of Kato Gerakari, there is a marble monument in memory of the fallen military residents of the village in the various wars. On the column there is a depiction of a laurel branch. The monument is crowned with an effigy of an ancient Antefix, also made of marble. On the monument are engraved the verses from the ode 'Eis Samon' by Andreas Kalvos: "Those who feel the hand made of copper weighting on them in fear, Let them have the yoke of slavery / Freedom needs virtue and courage."
